Rebuild Upstate breaks repair record with 103 homes served in six months

GREENVILLE, S.C. —   When it comes to repairing homes and changing lives, few do it better than Rebuild Upstate.

And they have the numbers to prove it. The agency set a goal of 100 homes repaired in the first half of 2019 and they exceeded it by the end of July – reaching 103 homes, 285 total projects and using 827 volunteers to do so. To put those numbers in perspective, last year Rebuild Upstate worked on 172 homes, with 499 total projects and 1,488 volunteers. It was 160, 477 and 1,489 in 2017.

“We are really proud of our team, our volunteers and our supporters,” said Dayle Stewart, assistant director with Rebuild Upstate. “This has been an amazing effort all around.

Rebuild Upstate relies on public and private funds to support critical home repairs across Greenville, Anderson, Oconee and Pickens counties. Through its work, the organization hopes to raise awareness of the need for more affordable housing in upstate communities. “We cannot reach these milestones without donors and volunteers. There is still much work to be done, as demonstrated by our long waiting list, and Rebuild Upstate is prepared to continue leading the way toward the elimination of substandard housing in the Upstate through community support,” Stewart said.
