Take Action for Housing: Support S.2651 and H.R.6644
Across South Carolina, older adults and families are living in homes that need urgent repairs they cannot afford. Federal housing and home repair investments help keep people safe, independent, and connected to their communities.
Congress is considering two important bills that can strengthen these efforts. Now is the moment for supporters to speak up.
The Bills at a Glance
S.2651 – ROAD to Housing Act of 2025
The ROAD to Housing Act strengthens the nation’s housing and homelessness response system, supporting proven strategies that help people remain safely housed and stabilize vulnerable households.
Although the bill was not included in the final National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), it can still advance on its own or be incorporated into future legislative packages. Strong public support is essential to keep it moving forward.
This bill was introduced by Senator Tim Scott. While this bill already has his full support, we encourage you to contact him to thank him for his work to fund important housing programs and for keeping housing a priority.
H.R.6644 – Housing for the 21st Century Act
This bill updates and invests in federal housing programs to better reflect today’s needs, including aging housing stock, accessibility, and rising costs. This act was introduced in December 2025 and includes many of the same programs from the ROAD to Housing Act in the Senate.
No South Carolina representatives are currently signed on to the H.R.6644.
Together, these bills support housing stability and help older adults and others on fixed incomes remain safely housed.
