Ms. J.C. has had a life full of wonderful memories. Among them are climbing the Eiffel Tower and standing on the rim of the Grand Canyon. Her favorite memory, however, is entering her home 40 years ago and hearing her children say “wow, we’ve got our own house.”
From that moment on, the family had their own yard and personal space. The home gave Ms. J.C. a place to raise children. It gave the children a place where they can focus on their education. They played football in the yard and they did homework at the table.
Ms. J.C.’s children are grown now. Two of her children, a son and daughter, served in the US Air Force. She traveled everywhere they were stationed: Germany, Arizona, France, and more. Ms. J.C. looks proudly at the gallery wall of photos whenever she talks about her family.
Like many others, Ms. J.C. grew worried about aging safely in her home. After 40 years, she may not be able to live in the house any longer or risk her safety. Ms. J.C. reached out to Rebuild Upstate for a solution. Rebuild Upstate staff worked with Ms. J.C. to assess the home and make recommendations that she hadn’t thought of like building a ramp.
Rebuild Upstate volunteers built a ramp for Ms. J.C. – which will allow her to continue to get in and out of her home safely. They also repaired a spot in the sub-floor where water had leaked over time. Thanks to Rebuild Upstate volunteers from HB Fuller and Covenant UMC, Ms. J.C. can continue to remain in the home where her memories are.
Ms. J.C. says, “Rebuild Upstate volunteers are a blessing and their commitment provides an opportunity for me to remain in the home I love… Now I’m enjoying life to the fullest.”
One of Ms. J.C.’s Build Days was sponsored by HB Fuller. Additional volunteers served from Covenant UMC.
