Volunteers are the heartbeat of our organization. In order to recognize those who go above and beyond, we hosted the “Because of You BBQ” Supporter Appreciation event this week. Please join us in celebrating the following individuals who have gone above and beyond to support our mission.
Home Repair Warriors
These individuals served 50+ or 100+ hours in 2018.
Rev. Warren Ashmore
This award is presented to a person or entity who has had a pivotal and vital contribution to the success of the organization.
Rev. Warren Ashmore has been a champion of our organization from its infancy nearly 13 years ago. As our first board chair, he willingly stepped up when our organization was barely beyond a dream. In the ensuing five years, he dedicated a tremendous amount of his time, talents, and resources to help build the foundation of what we’ve become today. Thanks to his belief in what our organization could be and his leadership of our Board in the beginning, it has led to over 800 homes across the Upstate being repaired in all the years since.
Greenville County Redevelopment Authority
This award is presented to a funder/donor that embraces our mission and service and has contributed substantially to our work.
This year’s recipient is a long-time partner of Rebuild Upstate. Over the years, the partnership between GCRA and Rebuild Upstate has supplied over $300,000 for home rehabilitation and led to over 70 families living in safe, healthy homes as a result of home repairs and rehabilitation. Many volunteers and staff worked on these projects – but their funds and vision for affordable home preservation made it happen.
This award is presented to a single volunteer that we recognize for service above and beyond.
Chris Harpe has served as a Volunteer Group Coordinator, meaning he helps recruit the volunteers in his group, St. John’s UMC. He leads St. John’s UMC 4 times a year as well as other groups whenever asked upon. His passion for service and patience for working with other volunteers earns him consistent praise from the volunteers he leads through successful Build Days. Chris consistently goes above and beyond to support both volunteers and Rebuild Upstate staff in carrying out our mission.
Jim Cauble, Gina Dill, Bill Oakes, & Graham Proffit
This award is presented to individuals whose support has kept us strong overtime. These individuals use their time and talent to help advance our mission to make homes safer, healthier, and more livable.
Jim Cauble & Bill Oakes
Jim and Bill have been involved with Rebuild Upstate for 4+ years. They design many of our ramps that volunteers build. In addition, they have led sites and helped make beveled boards for the ending of ramps.
Graham serves as a Build Day site leader. He has led over 20 groups through successful Build Days. On occasion, he has volunteered as often as 3 times a month. Graham has a heart for serving and has been an integral part of our growth at Rebuild Upstate throughout his involvement.
Gina has provided substantial support to homeowners by assisting in our office and leading our team through transitions related to our waiting list, surveys, and more. When speaking with homeowners, Gina speaks with humility and patience to make each homeowner feel heard and offers additional referrals to those in need.
